Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has ordered to law enforcementagencies to take action without any discrimination against cellular SIMs sold at road side stalls and arrest those responsible. The order was released during the case hearing of death of Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) prosecutor Chaudhary Zulfiqar Ahmad as reported in the press.
Moreover, a court has demanded a report until 3rd June of all the security measures taken for safety of lawyers in the twin cities.
The sale of mobile SIMs had been put to a stop by the orders of Supreme Court in November 2012. However it was relaxed in a way that the telecom operators were allowed to sell the SIMs on their registered Customer Centers and franchises only. Warid and Zong went ahead with the activity and continued sales of SIMs on their roadside stalls as well. Zong has also been distributing free SIMs in the market on account of its 5th anniversary.
Orders of such kind are normally passed on to the telecom regulator Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) which then forwards them to all the telecom operators. However, according to PTA official, the regulator had not yet received any notification from the court till evening of May 29.
