New features and appearance of Gmail introduced by Google

Google changed the appearance of Gmail once again and this time the internet giant has introduced the new look with automatic labels for Gmail on the Web, in addition to Gmail’s Android and iOS apps.

Based on Gmail’s existing Label system the modified default categories are Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates, and Forums which appear as large tabs on the inbox. They are made easy to be used for touch screens and can easily be customized. Messages can also be dragged-and-dropped between them, after some time of which Google will automatically learn how you want to filter them.

The updated app for Android and iOS will be available soon as said by Google while Web-based update will be rolled out over the next few weeks.

After the web update is rolled out, the Settings menu behind your Gear icon will have an option to “Configure Inbox.” Choose “Default” and refresh the page to see the new look.

Once you have access to the new look, you can switch between it and older Gmail views using the drop-down menu that appears when you mouse over your inbox.
