According to report compiled by Strategy Analytics, Chinese consumers bought a total of 67.4 million cell phones in the first quarter of 2013, accounting for almost 32% of all shipments worldwide.
The first quarter of 2013 also marks a great one for Samsung, not only around the world but also in China. Samsung marketed a total of 12.5 million cell phones in the most populous country of the world retaining its top place in the country. The 12.5 million cell phones marketed between January and March account for 18.5 % market share, which is a 2.2 percentage increase from the previous quarter. It is the first time that Samsung has marketed more than 10 million cell phones in China in a single quarter.
Huawei wheeled past the regional opponent Lenovo for second place by managing to sell about 8.1 million units. Lenovo arrived on the third place by promoting 7.9 million units
Closely following Lenovo is another regional manufacturer Coolpad and another China opponent ZTE, which marketed 7 million and 6.4 million models, respectively.
The data by Strategy Analysis showed that Apple arrived in the sixth place in terms of business by promoting 6.1 million units in China .
On the other hand, the world’s No. 3 smartphone maker, LG Electronics, manage to offer only 100,000 cell phones for a 0.1 % market share, marking its worst performance in China ever.
