Recently a report was published in which concerns were shown for small importers who were hinted to bear the burnt by this new move by PTA as Chinese manufacturers doesn’t provide IMEI numbers to orders of less than 5,000 mobile phones. Now this was an opinion that was offset by the realities of the mobile phone market. In recent years, authorities have kept a criminal silence over the issue of the mobile phones with fake/duplicate IMEI numbers which has today brought us to the point where most of the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) consist of same illegal mobile phones.
This type approval shall give the market and authorities a boost to work on a standard which shall be followed by every mobile importer and marketer while selling a device in the market. An eventual cleansing process shall be started in the market which shall not only tame the local mobile companies but shall also force the international players to launch mobile phones according to local needs.
As far as the small importers are concerned, they can simply join hands among their own ranks to increase their import orders from 5,000 so that even the Chinese manufacturers have to provide them with legalized mobile phones. This type approval is even going to strengthen the biometric verification system introduced by telecom companies for issuing Mobile SIMs. Without it, it would have been no use of putting a legal SIM in an illegal mobile phone.
