Asia Cup 2014

“The Asia Cup 2014” which is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh. Defending champions Pakistan will taken Sri Lanka in the opening match of the 50 over tournament on February 25, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced at a press conference in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.Bangladesh has been rocked by some of the deadliest political violence in its history in recent weeks, prompting speculation that the World Twenty20, due to be held in the country from March 16 to April 6, may be shifted elsewhere. The problem is that India is forcing Bangladesh to continue the Asia cup even If Pakistan is not available due to security reasons but ACC chief executive Ashraful Huq told reporters in Dhaka that the teams´ participation was subject to security clearance by their respective boards, but added he was confident all five nations would take part.Bangladesh cricket board has also offered Pakistan that they will gave us more security as compared to the other boards but the problem is that recently some other leaders of  Jamat-e-Islami has been sentenced to death by the government of Bangladesh which will effect the situation.Earlier, PCB had said that its team will participate in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh only after getting a clearance from their government due to security concerns in the violence-hit neighboring country.

Asia Cup’s history:

The ACC Asia Cup is an international men’s One Day International cricket tournament. It was established in 1983 when the Asian Cricket Council was founded as a measure to promote goodwill between Asian countries. It was originally scheduled to be held every two years. The first tournament was held in 1984 in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates where the council’s offices were based (until 1995). The International Cricket Council has ruled that all games played for the Asia Cup have official One Day International status. India has won the tournament the most times (5). India appeared in every Cup apart from the 1986 (India pulled out due to strained cricketing relations with Sri Lanka), 1993 (when it was cancelled due to strained political relations between India and Pakistan). The ACC have announced that the tournament will be held biennially from 2008 onwards.[3] Pakistan is the current champion after beating Bangladesh in the final of 2012 Asia Cup.

Pakistan has not hosted Asia cup since 2008 due to security reasons but according to me this Asia cup should have been scheduled in India because Srilanka hosted it in 2010 and Bangladesh in 2012,India was the automatic choice for this year’s cup but i don’t know whats the inside news is or why India is not hosting this cup?The main reason could be to eliminate Pakistan as they have been threatening us that they would include Afghanistan and will continue the cup without Pakistan but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has assured the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of enhanced security measures for their national team during the Asia Cup to be held in Bangladesh in February-March 2014.imagesPakistan is the defending champion and is a strong contender of winning it again this year as we have a strong bowling attack and a very fragile batting line. Our main opponent will be India which can gave us a tough time as always but my gut feeling is saying that Pakistan will beat India this time around,Srilanka is also a good limited over team but moreover the chances of winning this cup are either with Pakistan or with India (Its my personal opinion).

I hope that this Asia cup would also go on like the previous ones and Pakistan will participate and defend their championship(INSHAALLAH).
