Pakistan Tops Emerging Markets For Eco-Friendly Homes

Data reveals top cities for environmentally-friendly real estate

LAHORE, APRIL 28, 2015: Pakistan leads the emerging markets for eco-friendly and energy efficient homes, new research from property portal Lamudi shows. The country has topped Lamudi’s eco-friendly real estate ranking for the second year in a row.

Lamudi has today revealed the top cities in the emerging markets for properties with eco-friendly features. The research – drawn from onsite data for more than 30 countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America – covers three property types: apartments, houses, and commercial space.

In the apartment’s category, the Pakistani city of Karachi tops the list with more than 8200 eco-friendly units listed on the Lamudi Pakistan website. Bangladesh’s capital city, Dhaka, and Amman in Jordan claim the second and third spot, respectively. These cities have the highest number of properties for sale or rent offering green features, including a high energy efficiency rating, solar panels, water tanks and greywater systems.

Within the houses segment, Lahore, the capital city of the Pakistani province of Punjab, has the most eco-friendly homes of any city on the Lamudi platform. Karachi, also in Pakistan, places second, while Yangon, the largest city in Myanmar, comes third.

For commercial property, Chittagong in Bangladesh claims first place. The city boasts Bangladesh’s main port and is an important business hub within the South Asian region. Two Pakistani cities – Karachi and Lahore – round out the top three in this segment.

In 2013, Lamudi released researched that revealed demand for sustainable homes in Asia and Latin is skyrocketing. Pakistan topped the research, with 17 percent of property listings on the website fully or partially website. In total, nearly half (49.5 percent) of properties listed on Lamudi Pakistan have eco-friendly features, up from 17 percent last year.
