As a first-of-its-kind liberal arts and sciences college that seeks to make an outsized impact on the future of South Asia, Habib University has eagerly sought to create meaningful partnerships with some of the world’s foremost institutions of learning.

Building on a previous arrangement with Stanford University – under which students from Habib are facilitated in attending the eight-week Stanford Summer International Honors Program hosted by Stanford University each summer – Habib University has signed a new agreement with the Stanford University to explore possibilities of joint research, academic cooperation and faculty and student mobility.

These partnerships and collaborations have not only helped Habib shape some of the most innovative undergraduate degree programs in Pakistan, but also unlocked unprecedented opportunities for the scholars of this country to learn and grow abroad.

The Stanford Global Studies Division is a Stanford University initiative to “strengthen existing international programs and to expand the scope of scholarship and education to include critically important regions and themes in today’s world,” according to the department’s website.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two institutions will develop and strengthen their academic cooperation by encouraging their faculty to collaborate in joint research, research and writing projects.

The two institutions will also facilitate faculty and scholars hoping to visit either institution for general learning purposes as well as for visiting faculty or scholar appointments, short-term teaching and guest lectures. Under the agreement, Habib and Stanford will also facilitate students who wish to research or study in the archaeological and environmental programs of either institution.

One of the biggest benefits of this agreement is the unprecedented access provided to Habib faculty to learn from Stanford scholars’ experiences and apply them in the Pakistani context. This will encourage improvement and innovation in Habib University’s pedagogical practices and add significant value to students’ undergraduate experience.

The opportunity to work on joint research projects will also open new doors for trans-continental collaborations and sharing of resources for scholars looking to tackle global problems.
